Bright House Networks Relies on Observer

Volicon Observer Shines in Delivering High-Quality Video for Bright House Networks’ Customer Service Training

Volicon, a leading provider of media monitoring, recording, archiving, and streaming solutions, today announced that its Observer desktop video monitoring system is being used at Bright House Networks to enable recording of the company’s customer interaction stations. The Observer records and stores 60 days of material from four cameras focused on support representatives as they work with customers, and the resulting video can be accessed easily by the quality assurance team for training sessions and evaluation of customer service staff.

“The Observer system gives us functionality similar to that of a security system, but with extended storage capability and a much better broadcast-quality picture that provides smooth playback on a full-screen display,” said Dale Looper, engineering/program operations manager at Bright House Networks. “We needed a set-it-and-forget-it application, and the proven performance and reliability of the Observer system ensures that we can access the video we want when we want it. It’s been bulletproof for us so far.”

Volicon’s award-winning Observer system is based on a powerful, proprietary streaming video engine and player. Bright House Networks has deployed the system to ensure proactive delivery of excellent customer service as customers stop in to talk to representatives, pay bills, or change out equipment. From Microsoft® Internet Explorer® Web interfaces at the desktop, Bright House Networks’ quality assurance staff can log daily recordings and search, retrieve, analyze, and export video clips, locally or remotely, looking for coaching opportunities and for examples of how different situations should be handled. Likewise, the company can look back over archived
recordings for documentation relating to any customer service claims.

The Observer monitoring system archives instantly accessible content via RAID-5 storage, and its export functionality enables internal sharing of footage or repurposing of video within video productions. As each new day of footage is recorded and stored, the Observer automatically dumps the oldest archive material on the system. “While making our purchase decision, we tested a lot of systems like the Observer,” added Looper. “We found that the Observer sets the standard by which other products are judged. It’s a high-performance system that captures key video and audio for us effectively while requiring very little care or attention.”
