Brazil’s TV Record Purchases Volicon Observer for Transmission Monitoring, Compliance, and Ratings

Brazil’s TV Record Purchases Volicon Observer Systems for Transmission Monitoring, Compliance, and Ratings Analysis

Volicon, a leading provider of media monitoring, recording, archiving, and streaming solutions, has sold its Observer media monitoring solutions to TV Record, a Brazilian television network with 68 affiliate and O&O stations throughout Brazil. Headquartered in São Paulo, TV Record will use one eight-channel and one four-channel Observer system for transmission monitoring, advanced compliance, and ratings analysis.

“As a television network with a large geographic distribution of stations across the country, we’re very aware that simplified monitoring and compliance are critical to our operations,” said Reinaldo Gilli, engineering and operations director, TV Record. “When I saw how efficient the Volicon Observer was, I knew it was the system for us.”

The Volicon Observer system addresses several needs for TV Record. The network wanted a way to ensure that signals from its São Paulo headquarters were being transmitted to its stations without error. It also needed a way to meet the Brazilian government’s programming-compliance standards, and a simple method of analyzing its stations’ ratings. Prior to working with the Observer, network staffers were undertaking these tasks through a VHS-based system. This process took many hours each day and also required searching through a large, cumbersome video archive library.

Now, with the Volicon Observer, TV Record staff members will be able to record, store, search, and retrieve media, in real time, from multiple broadcast sources. Users can view and manipulate the material from any desktop in the facility, as well as export it outside the facility via Volicon’s powerful, proprietary streaming media engine. They can retrieve and analyze video clips with metadata, locally or remotely. Material is automatically stored for up to a year, and content can also be archived onto DVD for shelf-storage.

With Volicon Observer, ratings analysis and compliance standards tasks will be greatly simplified for TV Record. The main eight-channel Observer unit at TV Record’s headquarters will be used for monitoring its affiliates’ signals and those of some competitors. The network is installing the four-channel unit in Rio de Janeiro for remote monitoring of both TV Record and competitor stations in that area of the country.
