Japanese Satellite Broadcaster SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation Chooses Volicon Observer®
BURLINGTON, Mass. — July 14, 2010 — Volicon [http://www.volicon.com/] today announced that SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation, a leading Japanese satellite communications company and platform operator of multichannel pay TV satellite broadcasting services, has installed the award-winning Volicon Observer® digital logging and monitoring solution. By providing a continuous log of broadcast content across more than 100 SKY Perfect channels, the Observer is ensuring that the network maintains compliance with Japanese broadcasting regulations.
“The Volicon Observer is a vast improvement over our former compliance recording system, in which all broadcasts were recorded onto VHS tape. Not only did the old method produce less-than-quality results, but it was highly inefficient and resulted in additional costs for VHS equipment maintenance and tape storage,” said Mr. Takashi Maenaka, system engineer. “Now, with the Observer running 24/7 in the background, we have assurance that all aired content is being logged and recorded without requiring any intervention by our operations staff, in a high-quality and easily accessible manner.”
With assistance from Volicon reseller HOIE SANGYO Company Ltd., SKY Perfect has installed several multichannel Observer systems: one at its Aomi Broadcasting Center to monitor 76 analog channels and four SD-SDI channels, and another at the broadcaster’s new SKY PerfecTV! Tokyo Media Center to monitor 18 channels of HD-SDI content and 20 channels of SD-SDI. The Observer systems provide an archive of all broadcast content that is stored for at least three months, in compliance with Japanese regulations. Operators can access the system from an easy-to-use Web interface to search for, retrieve, and view specific video clips quickly for media mentions.
“Volicon’s patent-pending Video Monitoring Architecture (VMA) provides superior scalability for monitoring a large number of channels from a central location, which makes it ideal for media enterprises such as SKY Perfect,” said Julius Perl, vice president, marketing for Volicon. “We’re pleased that the Observer has exceeded SKY Perfect’s needs, and we look forward to working with the network as it expands its Observer installation to cover more channels in the future.”
